fly punett squares scenario 5 & dragon genetics lab results

genotype : the genetic makeup of an organism wich is affected by a single trait or a set of traits. In the fly experiment, the offspring are affected by the parent's traits;one quarter pure straight winged flies, one half hybrids, and one quarter crooked wing flies.

phenotype : the physical appearance of an organism.in the dragon genetics lab, changing specific genetic traits would either alter the existence of a certain trait or change it to something else completely. In the fly punett square scenario, the phenotype depends on the dominant and recessive traits.

allele : alternative form of a gene.found on chromosomes. The allele is the either capitalizad or non-capitalized letter that you find on the fly punette square.the dominant alleles are capitalized and carry the traits which will be more prevalent. On the other hand, the recessive alleles are uncapitalized and less prevalent.

cross:when two organisms mate they each donate several chromosomes to the new organism.in the fly punette square, the cross of straight and wrinkly wing alleles means that there is a 75% chance of the baby having straight wings,a 50 % chance of being a carrier for wrinkly wings but still having straight wings, and a 25% chance of acquiring wrinkly wings.the wrinkly wings are a recessive trait and therefore need to have bolth recessive alleles for this phenotype to occur, otherwise the dominant allele will have full controll over the physical appearance and straight wings will occur instead of wrinkly wings.
