nutrition lab write-up

FOOD CHART RESULTS (yes, they are a little screwed up, but so are the computers at school:)

-How healthy a daily diet do you think this is? Why?
i didn't eat breakfast, so not that healthy...

-What would you change about this day's eating, if anything?
get in some breakfast

-Do you find this kind of nutritional tracking helpful?
IDC(i don't care)

Why or why not?
my dad is a nutritional expert who is always giving me lectures on desert survival.

leech neuron lab write up

1. What is the electrode measuring?

using electrodes to record the activity of neurons

2. Why use leeches in neurophysiology experiments?

because it it has a simple nervous system and that simple nervous systems follow the same rules as complex nervous systems

3. What is the difference between a sensory and a motor neuron?

sensory neuron travels up toward the brain, motor neuron travels downward.

4. Do you think a leech experiences pain? What is pain?

first off, pain is a signal going to your brain and yes, I do think that leeches experience pain because if you stabbed a leech, it would squirm around as much as possible.

5. What were the two most interesting things about doing this lab?

that you couldn't screw anything up,and that they make the procedure and materials look so real

6. Anything you found confusing or didn't like about the lab?

I got creeped out when I saw the leech guts.If I had taken a real class for this you would hear the words EEEEEEEEWWW!!!!! and GROSSS!!!! alot...

blood pressure lab write-up

i didn't figure out how to get the stuff e-mailed or saved to windows, so I'm just gonna have to go with the printouts...goody...

below is the blood pressure chart results.

Age Range Male Systolic Male Diastolic Female Systolic Female Diastolic

11 - 17 117 81 117 76

18 - 24 130 81 117 77

25 - 34 130 81 116 74

35 -44 132 81 120 76

45 - 54 133 84 131 81

1 State a problem about the relationship of age and gender to blood pressure.

males and type a personality people are more prone to hypertension.Older people are also at risk because of innumerable stresses.

2 Use your knowledge about the heart and the circulatory system to make a hypothesis about how the average blood pressure for a group of people would be affected by manipulating the age and gender of the group members.

according to pulse norms, infants have up to 150 BPM,6-10 year olds have 70-120 BPM,and teens-adults have 60-110 BPM

3 How will you use the investigation screen to test your hypothesis? What steps will you follow? What data will you record?

select gender,select age,measure blood pressure,record results.

4 Analyze the result of your experiment. Explain any patterns you observed.

the older they got, the higher their blood pressure rose.

5 Did the result of your experiment support your hypothesis? Why or why not? Based on your experiment what conclusion can you draw about the relationship of age and gender to group blood pressure averages?

no,it did not support
older=higher blood pressure
answer same as above

6 During the course of your experiment, did you obtain any blood pressure reading that were outside of the normal range for the group being tested? What did you notice on the medical charts for these individuals that might explain their high reading?

yep
family history of hypertension,high-salt diet,no exercise,drinking.

7 List risk factors associated with the hypertension. Based on your observation, which risk factor do you think is most closely associated with hypertension?

heredity
high-salt diet
no exercise
drinking

heredity

8 What effect might obesity have on blood pressure? Does obesity alone cause a person to be at risk for high blood pressure? What other factors, in combination with obesity, might increase a person's risk for high blood pressure?

make it worse
yes
age,race(African-American),high-salt diet,inactivity.

genetics lab

fly punett squares scenario 5 & dragon genetics lab results

genotype : the genetic makeup of an organism wich is affected by a single trait or a set of traits. In the fly experiment, the offspring are affected by the parent's traits;one quarter pure straight winged flies, one half hybrids, and one quarter crooked wing flies.

phenotype : the physical appearance of an organism.in the dragon genetics lab, changing specific genetic traits would either alter the existence of a certain trait or change it to something else completely. In the fly punett square scenario, the phenotype depends on the dominant and recessive traits.

allele : alternative form of a gene.found on chromosomes. The allele is the either capitalizad or non-capitalized letter that you find on the fly punette square.the dominant alleles are capitalized and carry the traits which will be more prevalent. On the other hand, the recessive alleles are uncapitalized and less prevalent.

cross:when two organisms mate they each donate several chromosomes to the new organism.in the fly punette square, the cross of straight and wrinkly wing alleles means that there is a 75% chance of the baby having straight wings,a 50 % chance of being a carrier for wrinkly wings but still having straight wings, and a 25% chance of acquiring wrinkly wings.the wrinkly wings are a recessive trait and therefore need to have bolth recessive alleles for this phenotype to occur, otherwise the dominant allele will have full controll over the physical appearance and straight wings will occur instead of wrinkly wings.

how to work a microscope

The bottom two pictures are on some different thigs you can see by using a microscope, the top one is a onion leaf, and the picture just below it is a microscope(operating instructions below).

step 1: make sure you have ALL your equipment ...okay? good!:)

step 2: turn on the light using the light switch located on the bottom portion of your microscope, adjust the brightness using the brightness adaptor, and adjust the focus of the beam(that's the light shining through the bottom).

step 2b:lower stage to lowest point

step 3: place specimen under microscope and secure with stage clips(what's that?...no, of course it's not going to run away!why would you say that?...HUH? AAAAAH!OMG!!!![eheh, psyche]...)

step3b:use XYcontrols to adjust specimen over light in center of stage

step 4: switch objectives to lowest power magnification

step 5: adjust oculars

step 6: look through oculars and raise specimen slowly so that specimen is seen in views

step 7: use fine focus to view (adjusting light at this time is also suggested as the view may be too bright:D)

and that's all for today folks!

author is sighning off

untill nex time doods!
